Mind's I will be playing two full-band shows in August; a benefit for the Make A Wish Foundation on August 23, as well a show at the Monroe Hotel on August 30 with our friend Owen Elliott's band opening. The Make A Wish benefit will be with Greg Muiter on guitar, and the Monroe Hotel show will be with Jamie Hook on guitar. The benefit is by invitation only, but if you would like to come give Tom a call; his number is on our Contact page.
Work on the new cd is moving along. We are still doing overdubs and hope to be ready to mix and master the tracks in the next month or two. We continue to be pleased with how the album sounds, and really can't wait to share it with you. We hope to be able to do that by the Holidays.
For the first time in nearly six years Mind's I is actively working on a new album. Tracking began on Saturday, March 1 at
77 Studios in Butler with Jason Anthony, Scott Herbst, Jamie Hook, Greg Muiter, and Tom Panei all in attendance. Engineer and Co-Producer Jason Thompson is excited about the early mixes of the new material, which he describes as a departure from the Mind's I sound of the 90's and early 00's. After preliminary mixes were completed, Thompson says that the new material sounds "fresh" and like it was recorded by a group of guys who were "relaxed" and "having fun."
After a long hiatus from recording and performing, Mind's I will return to the studio in March 2008 with both current guitarist Jamie Hook as well as former guitarist Greg Muiter to track several never-before recorded songs.
This month marks the 10-year anniversary of the recording of Where The Secret Lies - the debut CD from Mind's I. It's hard to believe that an entire decade has passed since we sat around in those hot and miserable conditions at AFM Records' studio in Beaver Falls, PA recording the album that enabled us to go from local bar band to touring club band. We had a great time making this record, and we know people enjoyed it, because we sold through our first (and only) pressing in a matter of weeks.
Shortly after we received our first run of this album from the pressing facility, our label (AFM) relocated to Hollywood, CA. They tried for several months to convince us to make the trip to the West Coast to record another album with them, but we started to hear unsettling rumors about the direction the label was headed, so we maintained a "wait and see" attitude towards the trip. Unfortunately, the rumors were true, and AFM folded after a short time. Even more unfortunately for us was the fact that we lost the original masters for this album when AFM went belly-up.
Because we had wanted to re-mix the album before making an inventment in a second pressing, the loss of the masters basically killed our desire to put money into another run of our debut CD. This is why Where The Secret Lies has remained out-of-print for quite a while now.
Well, we decided that it might be nice to give everyone a present on the birthday of our debut, so we have made the entire album available for download for FREE from the Media section of the site. That's right - all 12 tracks (yes - including the "hidden" track 12: our rendition of Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues) are available in glorious, DRM-free MP3 files encoded at VBR ~256 kbps for extremely high sound quality.
